Govt may force operators to keep traffic on equipment of local make
MOSCOW, Jan 9 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Digital Development Ministry has suggested obliging connection operators to store traffic under the data retention law on locally manufactured equipment, according to the government’s draft ruling released on Wednesday on the official legislative website.
“Technical means of information storage…must have a certificate proving their origin on the territory of the Russian Federation valid on the moment of installation on a network of a connection operator,” the draft read.
The amendments to the law, approved by the government on April 12, 2018, will come in force in 180 days from their official publication.
The data retention law obliges connection operators to keep users’ traffic for 30 days from October 1, 2018, and raise storage capacities by 15% annually in the next five years.
